A world-famous wooden building with a beautiful structure

Also known as “Sazae-do”. A Kannon temple that was visited for the Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage until the end of the Edo period. It has separate one-way paths to go up and down, allowing many visitors to go in and out without passing one another. This type of structure is rare even elsewhere in the world.

  • Sazae-do

    In the past, the Saigoku 33 Kannon statues were located along the slope of the temple, allowing visitors to complete a 33 Kannon pilgrimage by coming here.

  • A dual spiral

    Thanks to the structure of separate one-way paths going up and down, many visitors can go in and out safely without passing one another.
