Enichi-ji Temple
慧日寺跡
The birthplace of Aizu Buddhist culture, the Nationally Designated Historic Site of “Enichi-ji Temple”
Enichi-ji Temple was first opened at the start of the Heian period around 1,200 years ago by the monk Tokuitsu, who finished studying the teachings of the Hosso sect in Nara and left to search for his ideal training place, making his way all the way to eastern Japan.
In the adjoining Bandaisan Enichi-ji Temple Museum, visitors can learn about the history and details of Enichi-ji Temple.

Umayasan Bato Kannon seated statue
Mount Umaya, to the west of Mount Bandai, is worshiped as the head temple of the Bato(Horse-Headed) Kannon in the Aizu region. Visitors must make prior contact.

Kenpon chakushoku Enichi-ji Ezu (Color painting on silk of Enichi-ji Temple)
From the main hall in the center flanked by many temple buildings and the rows of houses on either side of the road leading to the temple gate, the extent of Enichi-ji Temple in its prime can be seen.
It is currently entrusted to the Fukushima prefectural museum. -
Hakudo Sankosho (Nickel three-pronged vajra)
Said to be the only remaining relic left behind by Tokuitsu, who spread Buddhism to Aizu.

Fudoin Ryuho-ji Temple Fudo-do Hall
Ascetic monks were known to gather here beneath the sacred Mount Bandai from long ago. This hall shows that Enichi-ji Temple was formed from a complexity of religions, not just Buddhism.
